If you’re snuggling on the couch this Halloween and greeting trick-or-treaters, why not treat yourself to some scares and blood-spills while you’re at it? The following are my personal scary movie picks to keep you company this All Hallows Eve.
- “Alien” (1979) and “Aliens” (1986) – There are few movie experiences scarier than watching Sigourney Weaver fight a vicious monster in outer space. I had to sleep with the lights on for about a week after watching the first two installments of this classic series, so why not do an “Alien” double feature?
- “The Ring” (2002) – Beautiful cinematography combines with spine-chilling scares in this movie about a journalist fighting to save her and her family from a deadly curse. Watch this if you want to see what is arguably one of the best horror movies ever.
- “Scream” (1996) – This Wes Craven hit is both insanely scary and funny. Watch this if you like to laugh in between bouts of screaming bloody murder.
- “Notorious” (1946) – If you’re in the mood for a taste of old Hollywood, check out this Hitchcock thriller starring Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. It may have been made in the 40s, but it scares me every time I watch it to this day.
- “The Silence of the Lambs” (1991) – This tense serial-killer movie with Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster will keep you on the edge of your seat, and you’ll feel like you’ve watched a great horror flick and character drama in one.
- “Dexter” (2006-Present) – If you’re in the mood for a TV marathon, why not laugh and cringe at this serial killer with a conscience? I should warn you that this series is addictive, so you may want to start watching on a Friday night so you can squeeze the first season into one weekend.
